This is my favorite time of the year. And it’s not because of Christmas, New Years or the extra time off work.
It’s for the college football bowl games.
The stuff these kids live for is playing out right in front of your eyes. Many kids won’t play another serious snap of football in their lives. Few will go on to the NFL and make a name for themselves.
And during these bowl games, none of that matters. Because they each leave it all out on the field and it’s incredible to watch.
There’s some great matchups again this year, but the talk of the networks is Notre Dame in yet another college football playoff.
It just doesn’t make sense.
If the NCAA wants us to take the playoffs seriously, they have to get it together.
There’s no way that Notre Dame should be in it this year.
Clemson, the second overall team in the country, just played Notre Dame. And guess what, they kicked their butts.
But the two teams faced each other earlier in the season, and Clemson was without it’s star player, and Notre Dame won in OT.
So two teams in the playoffs already played each other twice this year, splitting the games.
And the NCAA thinks we want to see a rematch? No way.
Put another competitor in there. There’s other undefeated teams with Cincinnati Bearcats and even San Jose State Spartans. I know they do the eye test and that helps them filter some of this out, but they allowed Ohio State in with only six wins. Six games, six wins and they have a chance to be called the best team in college football. Playing in a round with teams that have losses. We’ve seen these same teams in the playoffs before.
At some point it’s all a conspiracy.
If there was ever a year to give another team a shot, this was it. Teams that played 8, 9, 10 or 11 games and only have a loss.
Ok, enough rambling.
Let’s get down to who I like.
The Bearcats I already mentioned. Undefeated but they are the underdogs in their bowl game. Worth a shot there. Notre Dame doesnt belong in the playoffs, but at a 19.5 point underdog against Alabama, taking them plus the points is appealing. Still not where I’d put my money.
Even Clemson is favored by a touchdown over Ohio State.
If Clemson and Alabama are really head and shoulders above the rest of the teams, then let them square off during the season. The Gators played Alabama and only lost by six. Heck, that stands to be a much better matchup than Notre Dame who is a near 20 point dog.
