This is a serious question. The college football playoff’s are in question after major conferences are going in-division only. Without some of the biggest rivalry games and leaving out some teams a chance to play better opponents, the ranking system will be skewed more than ever.
Will there be a serious push to eliminate the college football playoffs, maybe eliminate the championship all together this year?
I don’t know.
But I know that as conferences act like the SEC just did, limiting it to a 10 games season and in-conference only, there’s going to be a lot of noise about what to do with the playoffs.
Personally, nothing should stop the college football playoffs from happening. And the best approach, may be to expand it instead of cancel it.
Ways to Avoid Canceling the College Football Playoffs
It would make sense.
Limit the regular season games to in-conference only, but then expand the college football playoff format to include 16 or 24 teams. It would only take a couple of weeks worth of games to get back to the top four and eventual champions.
But expanding it, would allow other conferences a better shot at the championship and help make for a much more exciting format in these crazy times for fans.
After all, it’s the fans that are suffering the most. Missing out on some big rival games, likely not begin able to attend games, and even if they do, there will be no tailgating.
Give us, the fans, something. Expand the playoffs and we’ll be back in the game, 100%.
Still, I’m excited for college football. Can’t wait for all the sports to get back to normal. Right now we have MLS, MLB and NBA going, with the NHL starting up tomorrow. It feels great.

In the MLB, the biggest underdog today is the Boston Red Sox (+170) going up against the dominant New York Yankees (-198). The Red Sox are 3-4, but they are going up against a 4-1 Yankee team that is playing in New York for the first time this season. Underdogs chances are not looking good.
Both NBA games last night were lower on the scoring side and very close matchups – both winning by just a two point margin.
The Milwaukee Bucks (-198) and the Boston Celtics (+166) head off the top matchup tonight. The Bucks had the best record before the break, but they were still 1-1 this year against the Celtics. A four point favorite tonight, this will be a close one by the spread.
Another top NBA game is the Houston Rockets (+104) and Dallas Mavericks (-122). A very evenly matched game has the Mavericks as a slight one point favorite. They split two games earlier this year, but one team has the chance to take the best of the three matchups tonight. It’s a toss up at this point.
