We had ourselves a Tuesday night football game this week, making week 5 stretch from October 8 to October 13, six full days with football action on all but two of them.
It’s been a wild week, so we’ll spend our Wednesday doing a little quarterbacking, where we look back at some of the big games and bad bets from the week before.
We’ll discuss whether or not the Raiders are the real deal, why you need to watch out for the Bears and Dak’s “sprained” ankle.
Let’s dive in…
The Raiders are the Real Deal
We all know who the team to beat was – the defending Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs.
And the Raiders got it done. Even better, they went into Kansas City to beat them at home.
Some of the Chiefs games they are slow to start. This wasn’t one of them.
The Chiefs were up 21-10 with nine minutes left in the second quarter. They finished the quarter tied 24-24.
After a scoreless third quarter, which still amazes me, the Raiders snuck in two touchdowns and a field goal in the fourth before the Chiefs could get their touchdown.
It was a dominant performance for the Raiders all around.
They were able to run the ball almost at will, found several deep opportunities and, more importantly, their defense slowed the most explosive team in the league.
When all of that comes together, it’s a recipe for success.
Now, my favorite coach in the league, Jon Gruden, has the team on track after two wobbly years for a winning season with the playoffs already in sight.
The Las Vegas Raiders get some rest this week with a bye, but will back in week 7 ready to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Look Out for them Bears
Every one has Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ranked high this year, but the Bears just knocked them down a notch with a 20-19 win in Chicago.
Maybe the only team in history to start this hot, currently 4-1, and have QB drama. They benched Mitch Trubisky, their starter for the first two games to get them 2-0, against Atlanta after he failed to move the ball.
Nick Foles came in and saved the day, leading them to a comeback victory to stay undefeated.
Foles lost in week four against the Colts, but this was a big win last Thursday.
The Buc’s with Brady and company, are considered a top favorite in the NFC.
The Bears likely weren’t even thought about before the start of the season are now making a case.
It’s not flashy, most of the time it’s not even pretty, but look out for them Bears.
Because they are doing one thing right, winning.
The Chicago Bears (+120) get a tough road matchup this week against the Carolina Panthers (-140). Since the Bears have a better record but are the underdog, they can use that as a chip on their shoulder. The Panthers have won three straight though, and won’t be overlooking the Bears this week. It’s going to be a great game.
Dak has a “Sprained” Ankle
I’m not trying to make light of this situation. I had a teardrop in my eye when I saw him being carted off the field. It was a truly horrendous sight.
The trending topic after it was Tony Romo calling it maybe a “sprain” on live TV. To his credit, it just happened and Dak Prescott was holding his knee.
Yes, his ankle was facing the complete wrong way, but live on camera, and hoping things were going to be for the best, he mentioned it may have been a sprain.
He was way off.
And now the Cowboys are stuck with Andy Dalton, former Cincinnati Bengal, at QB on what was an incredible year for Dak.
Andy isn’t going to be able to step in and be as good as Dak was, and he won’t stand a chance if their defense still can’t stop anyone, but he is one of the best backups in the league.
Some teams don’t hardly carry a backup TD. It’s some undrafted rookie who has never taken a snap.
Dalton is a veteran. He’ll be able to make some good plays, push the ball down the field and give them team a higher level of competition this year compared to most teams.
It’s going to be a wild card for bets going forward. The Dallas Cowboys (+120) play on Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals (-140) and are only a two point underdog. I’d lean towards Arizona in this one. Kyler Murray is making a jump at QB this year leading this team to the playoffs.
That’s all for today.
