It felt like the NFL was safe from Covid-19. Then the Titans had positive tests. Then Cam “Superman” Newton had it.
Now the NFL is scrambling to implement new protocols to keep the season going.
But with two games already postponed or delayed and it’s just week four, is Covid-19 set to wreck the NFL’s hopes in 2020.
We’ll talk Covid-19, big games from yesterday and what to watch for tonight.
Let’s dive in…
Covid-19 Wrecks NFL
First it was a few Titans. They played the Vikings before testing positive, but there seems to be no transmission between the two teams.
However, out of the blue, New England Patriots quarterback, Cam “Superman” Newton, tested positive a day before they headed to Kansas City for their Sunday game.
Covid-19, which has been quiet in both the NFL and White House, all of a sudden has reached those two places and is spreading.
I don’t know if the NFL will get a handle on it or what, but it is wrecking my fantasy team.
Took me all week to adjust to the Titans-Pittsburgh sudden by week, plus worried about if the Minnesota-Houston game would be good-to-go. Then we get news that Patriots-Chiefs, the game of the week, is set to be postponed.
For fantasy owners, it was pretty bad news. Pushed to a Monday or Tuesday night game. As of right now, it’s scheduled for Monday night at 7:05pm, pending more test results.
I benched all my Chiefs and Patriots players because I didn’t have valid options in the later Monday night game between Packers-Falcons.
It’s only week four. We’ll see if this gets out of hand for the NFL to the point they have to cancel the season. God knows they are doing everything in their power not too.
Surprise Games from Yesterday
Are the Browns for real? I mean, 3-0, crushing the Cowboys until there was another late game comeback. But it wasn’t enough. The Browns still got the win making that three straight wins. The first two were kind of expected against the Bengals and Washington team, formerly known as the “Redskins.” Beating the Cowboys was impressive, now they have a few more tough games on the schedule against the Colts and Steelers to keep the momentum going and prove if they are the real deal or not.
Brady still has the juice. Rallying his troop from a 24-7 deficit near the end of the second quarter to a 38-31 victory. Sitting atop the NFC South, the new look Bucs are ready to roll. After a week one loss to the Saints, the Bucs have rolled past the Panthers, Broncos and now Chargers. They get a fluttering Bears team next before two tough games against the Packers and Raiders. That will be the key to seeing how good the Bucs are.
The Bills and Seahawks are the only 4-0 teams. Titans, Steelers, Chiefs and Packers are all 3-0, but have yet to play. The Pack will play tonight. But what we know from the Bills and Seahawks is that these are the elite teams. The Bills have edged out team after team, lead by Josh Allen’s big arm. The Seahawks have had more finesse, as Wilson just chews up defense after defense. The only problem is Seattle’s defense has allowed about anything the opposing team wants as well – until this weekend. They showed up and helped the Seahawks get the win down in Miami.
What to Watch – Chiefs-Patriots, Packers-Falcons
We have two games tonight to get pumped about. The Chiefs-Patriots is up first, and it’s a battle of the best of the best. The Chiefs have picked up right where they left off after the Super Bowl, showing there are still an intimidating offense. Meanwhile the Patriots are doing it all over the field, offense, defense, running, throwing, it’s the full package. But without Newton, it’s not a fair matchup. Still a great game to watch if they kick off tonight.
The Packers-Falcons is interesting because the Falcons have had one of the best offenses in the league but can’t stop a team for anything. The Packers do have a top offense, and their D has helped them win games. That has them as the favorite heading into tonight, we just want to see what adjustments the Falcons are making to get a stop on defense so they can try to get their first win of the season. It’s going to be fun to watch as well.
Our “Pick of the Day” tonight is on the Falcons-Packers game. I love the Chiefs vs Patriots, but not sure they will get around to playing the game.
