Social justice messages are just going to be part of sports returning this year. Like it or not, it’s something to live with for one season. But it’s already catching heat for one sport – baseball.
It will die down, just like all the other issues. Even if my simple solution below isn’t followed through. But you personally can’t keep it from impacting your fan experience.
There’s an idea of a MLB Boycott being floated around after some players kneeled during the anthem.
We haven’t even played a real game yet and baseball is stealing headlines.
The Baseball Boycott
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz had a recent Twitter spat with billionaire Mark Cuban over the MLB Boycott, and it was great content.
There’s no doubt that kneeling for the National Anthem rubs many the wrong way.
Take those actions to countries in the east, China, for example, and it’s a totally different tone. Not only would it rub someone the wrong way, but they would be thrown in jail for disrespecting the country, or worse – turn up missing.
That was a key point for Ted Cruz, to point out that the NBA won’t allow messages critical of China, only because China won’t continue their relationship with the NBA if they do.
But by supporting one message, and not another, the idea of giving players a platform will run thin in the U.S. as well.
At the end of the day, Boycotting Baseball won’t happen over a few players taking a knee during the anthem.
The MLS had a lot of additions to push the social justice message. The NBA has “Black Lives Matter” painted on the court. The NFL will have a clear message to send as well.
It’s just part of the environment we live in.
A Simple Solution
My simple solution – take away the anthem.
Stop playing it live. Stop acting like the athlete’s are all that patriotic.
By removing it, you begin taking the noise out of the sport. I won’t let my kids watch the pregame or halftime content any more because it’s all politically based.
Get back to the stats, the game being played, and analyzing that and we’ll be taking a big step forward.
That’s the only approach to take when it comes to sports betting also.
You cant give one team a boost for pushing a message you agree with. All of that doesn’t impact the betting lines, and you can’t let it impair your judgement for making money.

We are just one day away from Opening Day for baseball to get going, so hang in there. More sport bets are coming. But for today’s Rundown, we’ll continue focusing on the MLS and a big underdog in the Premier League.
The Daily Sports Bets Rundown
First up is our 9am “Pick of the Day” between Real Salt Lake (+200) and Sporting Kansas City (+105). A battle in Group D for a spot in the next round, is creating a very even matchup. But the odds show a clear favorite in Sporting Kansas City. Check out our “Pick of the Day” to see who you should bet on.
At 8pm, FC Cincinnati (+270) takes on the New York Red Bulls (-120), and lookout, FCCincy is a huge underdog in this one. One of the worst teams all year get’s a rematch against a tough opponent in NY. NY won 3-2 in the first game of the season, but FCCincy may be looking for revenge begin a big underdog tonight.
The last MLS game is with Colorado Rapids (+200) and Minnesota United FC (+105). Another tough Group D matchup is going to be a close game. Both teams need a win, and even though Minnesota is the favorite, Colorado has had some close call games that, if they went their way, would put them ahead in the standings. Look for this one to go to the wire.
Today’s huge underdog is West Ham United (+1,100). This bet almost looks tempting, but Manchester United (-405) is looking to make it a quick and easy win. Quick fact, these teams have played twice a year in 2019 and 2018, and the underdog West Ham has two wins, one loss and one draw. The +1,100 may look decent after all. At least the -405 is not worth the risk.
Manchester City was the huge favorite against yesterday’s underdog in Watford. And they walked away with an easy 4-0 win.
