DSB Rundown: Are You Ready for Thursday Night Football!

DSB Rundown: Are You Ready for Thursday Night Football!

The NFL is finally back with an opening game between the Houston Texans and defending Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s going to be fun to watch, and even more fun because it’s our “Pick of the Day” today.

We couldn’t let the first game of the NFL go by without making a bet on it.

In our Rundown today, we’ll focus on the matchups, fantasy players and the tone it could set for the rest of the season.

But, if you want our top bet on this matchup, you need to sign up for our Fan Club Package to get the “Pick of the Day.”

Every day we give out our number one pick each day for a ridiculously low price. Just $0.14 per pick. But it’s only for members of our Fan Club package.

Let’s start with the key matchups.

What to Watch in Chiefs vs Texans

Well, the biggest thing is to see if the Chiefs have a Super Bowl hangover.

It was Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid’s first Super Bowl and it can impact people differently. To still have the same competitive drive after just becoming the best team in the world is a difficult mental task.

But, on the other side of the ball, DeShaun Watson and the Houston Texans want to spoil their home coming party.

The Chiefs are favored by nine points, but the Texans are still one of the better teams in the league.

These two teams played on January 12, 2020. Earlier this year. And it led to one of the biggest offensive explosions we have seen, with the Chiefs putting up 51 points to the Texans 31.

Expect more fireworks tonight as long as Mahomes is ready to go.

Fantasy Picks

With the first game of the NFL, it means it’s time to put those fantasy teams to work as well.

The Chiefs unstoppable offense helped them get two or even three players drafted in the first round – Tyreek Hill, Patrick Mahomes and their rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Their tight end was one of the first off the board, Travis Kelce.

For tonight, there’s only one I would consider sitting, but only if you have a top player to substitute – Clyde.

There’s no doubt he is going to have a great season. That’s why he was coming off the draft boards in the first round without ever taking a snap in the NFL. But tonight, word is his snaps will be split with Darrel Williams.

Head coach Andy Reid wants to bring Helaire into the offense slowly and allow him to preserve his body for the entire year. So, expect a slower start than you would like for week one with Helaire.

Still, since he was your first-round pick more than likely, you may have limited options to fill in. There’s nothing wrong with starting him if you have too. He can still have a breakout game.

Tone for 2020

The first NFL game of the season is going to feel weird, but not as weird as some on Sunday.

Kansas City happens to be one of the few allowing fans this year, which is great to see. Capacity is limited, but it still brings a sense of normalcy after what has been a crazy 2020.

More importantly, it will set the tone for how other stadiums and teams adapt to it.

Is there really a home field advantage this year? With crowd noise not being an issue, Seattle loses their 12th man.

I know some think it doesn’t matter, fans or no fans, but it’s going to have a totally different feel for the players.

Heck, most of the celebrations were for the fans in the stadium. The Lambo Leap and others are all designed to get the fans hyped.

I don’t see some players getting as amped up playing in an empty stadium.

So hopefully things go well with the stadiums allowing fans to return, and we can see that implemented across the league sooner than later.

We know traveling still weighs on the away team, which means home teams still have the advantage – just maybe not as big as pre-COVID.
