DSB Rundown: NFL Preseason Woes, Top MLB Lock

Here’s a riddle, a Cowboy rode into town on Friday, stayed two nights and left on Friday. What happened?

After watching the Minnesota Vikings tackle this question, and then race against the Broncos with another riddle: which animal can jump higher than a house?, it was all I had to throw in here for national joke day.

I know they are not quite jokes, but the riddles and watching the guys try to wrap their heads around it was a good laugh for me and my son.

We’ll dive into the NFL preseason today, but don’t miss our “Pick of the Day” in the MLB at the end of the article. This one is as good as it gets.

NFL Preseason Woes

The hype around the preseason has to be laughable right?

It’s our first taste of football, so as fans, I enjoy watching position players get a chance to shine and see how they match up.

But that’s where it ends. Who wins, who losses, whether my backup QB looks like a stud, I don’t care about any of that.

Why?

Because it is the preseason.

Yes, players are trying to make a team, but starters are coasting through. So even though the Vikings spent too much time with the riddle, and the Broncos slaughtered them in their preseason matchup, it means nothing.

Sorry Broncos fans, but this doesn’t mean your team is ready to start the season on fire and that Drew Lock is the second best QB in the league.

It’s just a matter of going through the motions.

We have praises coming in for Justin Fields, a few other QBs and some heat towards Tebow who failed to make an easy block.

Let’s just all cool it down for a bit. Again, it’s just preseason. There’s nothing to practically react to. Sure, Tebow may be horrible at blocking. Did you see his one handed grab in warmups though?

Trust the coaches. If Tebow does suck, expect him not to last long. But I remember last year when Gronkowski, another big TE, though Tebow is clearly not even a comparison, but, Gronk came out to the public that he was brought to Tampa to block, and is happy if he never caught a pass.

I think he had a TD and over 50 yards the very next game. The connection between him and Brady is too good not to let him chip a player and them roll out. The big bodies around the Red Zone are a quarterbacks favorite target.

So, I’m not giving Tebow the short end of a stick here. He may not have what it takes to run at TE, but who cares. He will be out of the league once again soon enough if he doesn’t.

Until then, trust the coaches.

As for Justin Fields, scrambling works until it doesn’t. He looks great, but keep him healthy in Chicago so you can build him for the years to come. Let him through, not get squashed trying to pickup 10.

And I’ll go ahead and say it. Mac Jones is the starting QB week one in New England. Any other starter and it’s got to be because of the race.

“Pick of the Day” MLB: Baltimore Orioles vs Tampa Bay Rays

It’s a miss match tonight between the top ranked Rays and the struggling Orioles.

Tampa Bay is coming in as a huge favorite, and I see no reason to fade it. Let’s ride their dominant season to a plus 2.5 run win tonight.

It’s not the standard run line, but it’s worth the extra payout. If the Orioles keep it close, they have a better chance of an outright upset than a one run loss.

So I’ll put my money on Rays -2.5 runs tonight.

Fanduel is paying out +112 for picking the Rays to win by more than 2.5 runs. That means a $100 bet will have the chance to payout $112 or a 112% profit. If you are looking for an opportunity to win $100, you’ll need to bet $90 on this game.

For us to win, we need the Tampa Bay Rays to win the game by three runs or more. If they win by two runs or less, or lose, we lose the bet.

That’s all for today.
