The MLS is on fire, in terms of sports to watch. Tonight’s matchup between the Chicago Fire FC and San Jose Earthquakes is set up to be another great game.
Heading into the game, the 8th ranked team in the east, Chicago Fire FC (1-1-1), are the favorites. And the San Jose Earthquakes (1-2-1), 8th ranked team in the west, are slight underdogs.
Their records are essentially identical, but the Earthquakes have played an extra game, and have one more draw than the Fire.
Overall, that makes it an even matchup, but here’s the bet to put your money on…
Chicago Fire FC vs San Jose Earthquakes
When you look at the stats and games a little closer, then you can see why the underdog might make sense today.
The Chicago Fire’s only win is against Seattle, who beat them earlier this year. Their only other game is a tie against New England. So their record isn’t that great. A loss and win against the same team, and a draw against another decent team.
San Jose, on the other hand, are coming off a 4-3 win over Vancouver. I know, it’s just Vancouver, but it was a shootout that they came on top in.
They have a draw against Seattle, the only team the Fire has beat, and lost too. And then the San Jose Earthquakes have two losses to two of the top teams in the league – Minnesota and Toronto.
Now they have a chance to get their second win in a raw with a matchup that is pretty even. And I think they live up to the challenge.
San Jose has scored a lot of goals this year, but their defense has lacked the ability to limit the other teams. The win against Vancouver could give them that momentum.
I’ll take San Jose Earthquakes to pull off the upset and grab another win for the season.
