In the first round of the NBA playoffs, we are getting some familiar matchups. The Oklahoma City Thunder will travel to Portland to battle in the first game of the post season for the two teams.
We have struggled with the NHL picks so far, but that will turn around for us. As we switch to the NBA, we are already seeing the underdogs generate many upsets, which is what hurt us in hockey.
In today’s pick, we are flipping our usual script and staying with the underdogs. This particular matchup gives us great odds and is setting up to be my favorite pick of the week.
The Underdogs are Beasting
The underdogs, the teams not favored to win, have ruled the first rounds of both the NHL and NBA. It caught us off guard in the NHL, but we are ready to follow the trend today.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have played the Portland Trail Blazers four times in the regular season. And while every game was close, staying within a 10-point spread, the Thunder have won each game.
The Trail Blazers are the better team based on their record, so they get home court advantage in the first game. That has book makers making them the favorite by 3.5 points.
Since Oklahoma has found a way to win in each of their previous meetings, including two home games for the Trail Blazers, I like their odds of winning this one.
But, I never like to pick the upset.
That’s why we are picking the Oklahoma City Thunder plus 3.5 points, meaning they just have to lose by three points or less. This covers us if it is a close game or if the Thunder pull off the upset.
IT is paying out at -110 odds, meaning a $110 bet would pay out $100. You can also think of it as a 90.91% profit.
To profitable bets,
Ryan
