We are sticking with college basketball today with a matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and West Viriginia Mountaineers.
March has been filled with some great games already, but it’s just getting started.
As we enter the quarterfinals for many divisions, it’s going to get even better.
The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to grab their third win over the Mountaineers this year, but the 22nd ranked West Virginia team is not going to roll over.
Here’s what I’m watching…
Oklahoma Sooners Battle the West Virginia Mountaineers
The matchup is even on paper. Identical conference records at 9-9 and just a two game difference in their overall record.
Both average 70 points per game and are similar for field goal percentage, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals per game.
But here’s the thing. WVU is a better defensive team. They have held opponents to an average of 62 points, compared to the Sooners which allows an average of 67 points.
Clearly West Virginia statistically, is the better overall team.
And they were given the favorite in this matchup, by 3.5 points.
Basketball is all about matchups, and making shots of course, but the matchup between these two has been anything but by the book.
In fact, in the two previous meetings between West Virginia and Oklahoma, West Virginia never scored 70 points. And they couldn’t hold Oklahoma to 62 points or less.
Instead, it was the Sooners getting the better of the Mountaineers in both games.
Heading into this matchup, the Sooners are now the underdogs?
You can’t tell me that doesn’t give them a chip on their shoulder. While I think it will be a great game, I have to go with Oklahoma here plus the 3.5 points.
