A rising team versus a falling team, and I bet you know who I’m talking about. The UNC Tarheels face the Syracuse Orange in the second round of the ACC tournament.
During March Madness, anything can happen, but these two teams played less than two-weeks ago. That gives us a pretty good idea of the current matchup.
Even though Syracuse was favored by five points and playing at home, the UNC Tarheels put up a dominating performance and won by 13.
It took a phenomenal shooting attack by the Tarheels to get it done, but the point here is this is a team on the rise.
After falling apart against nearby rival, Duke, at home, the Tarheels have remained an inconsistent team.
But their last five games have been impressive.
Early in their season they were hit with injuries after losing star guard Cole Anthony for more than ten games.
If the young teams don’t play together for long, it takes them a while to get into a groove. Well, the Tarheels have a chance to find a spark in the ACC tournament and make a legit run.
Anthony hasn’t been the sole difference maker, but they are a better team with him.
They topped the Virginia Tech last night, with an impressive 22-point win. UNC has lost two of their past five games, but that was to ranked teams. And one of their wins was by 13 over Syracuse.
Meanwhile, Syracuse has also won three of their last five, but lost to unranked UNC and Miami in OT.
The spread isn’t posted yet on this matchup, but I would take UNC up to -5 points.
The last matchup had Syracuse as a 5-point favorite, but with a few impressive wins, the Tarheels should be the favorite in this game, maybe by two to three points. If the spread is more than 5.5 points, I’ll take Syracuse plus the points.
The Tarheels haven’t been consistent in pulling away in games. This will likely be another close one.
You just cant count out the all-star coaching going on and talent on these young rosters. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a great game.
