Two weeks of real football and the market has already moved a mile on a few teams. Some of those moves are earned. Some are an invitation. This weekend we ride one of each.
Start in Orchard Park. Bills-Chargers opened Buffalo -2.5 and now sits at -7 (some books -7.5). That’s a massive swing, and it’s driven by what we’ve actually seen: Buffalo is 2-0 straight up and against the spread, and the Chargers dropped both home games by the same 26-14 score. When a number moves that far, you either fade it or you trust it. The underlying numbers say trust it.
Saturday’s marquee is the opposite spot. Top-ranked Texas goes on the road for the first time this season, to Knoxville, laying 5.5 to No. 14 Tennessee. The Longhorns failed to cover as a 30.5-point favorite against UTSA last week, and Arch Manning had one of the roughest outings of his career. The ranking says Texas. The recent tape says take the points.

Per Sharp Football Analysis and TruMedia data, Buffalo ranks 1st in yards per play (7.1), 1st in points per game (38.5), and 1st in EPA per play. The Bills beat Houston 36-31 on the road, then opened their new stadium with a 41-31 win over Detroit. The defense has been leaky, but it ranks 7th in pressure rate, and the Chargers rank 31st in pressure rate allowed. That’s the matchup: a Mike McDaniel offense that’s 20th in scoring, with Justin Herbert under siege, flying east for a 1PM kick. ESPN’s FPI makes it Bills by 8.2. Lay it.

WHY
Covers’ breakdown lays it out. Manning posted a 30.7 QBR and a 63% adjusted completion rate against UTSA as Texas failed to cover -30.5. Tennessee’s defense ranks just 31st in EPA per pass, so a slow start from Manning lets the Vols hang around. Josh Heupel’s offense ranks No. 3 in SP+ and 4th in EPA per rush, freshman Faizon Brandon sits 22nd nationally in QBR, and DeSean Bishop leads a backfield behind one of the best lines in the country. It’s Texas’ first road game, it’s Knoxville at noon, and the Manning family history there doesn’t make it any easier. Take the points.

The Weekend Angle
The theme this week is sorting real moves from noise. Buffalo’s jump from -2.5 to -7 is backed by the best offensive profile in the league. Kansas City moved from -7 to -10.5 in Miami for similar reasons. Texas, on the other hand, is still priced like the team that beat Ohio State, not the one that sputtered against UTSA.
Saturday at 3:30 has two more worth a look. Florida -3.5 vs No. 4 Ole Miss in the Swamp: Covers likes the Gators at -4.5 or better behind Jadan Baugh, who leads the country in rushing touchdowns (8) against an Ole Miss defense ranked 75th in EPA per rush. And Oklahoma at Georgia sits at Georgia -14 with a 44.5 total, the lowest-scoring projection of the big games.
Sunday late window: Ravens-Cowboys from Brazil (4:25PM, CBS) carries the highest total on the board at 53.5, up from 52.5, with Baltimore -3.5. Monday night closes it out with Eagles -4.5 at the Bears, total 41.5.
