October football is here, and so is the first real gut check of the season. A road favorite in Philly that keeps losing to this opponent. A Heisman favorite at quarterback finally facing a real test. We’re picking our spots.
Quick receipt from last week: Tennessee +5.5 against No. 1 Texas got there, with the Vols covering in Knoxville. This week we stay on the same idea: back the team with the better matchup, not the one with the better ranking.
In the NFL, Rams-Eagles opened Rams -1.5 and has been bet up to -3 (some books -3.5). That’s a lot of respect for a road team that has lost every meeting with Philadelphia since 2023. In the SEC, No. 7 Alabama goes to Starkville laying 5.5 to No. 16 Mississippi State, and the numbers say the Tide are the more complete team.
Two featured plays, four player props, and the rest of the board below.

🏈 FRIDAY LOCK · NFL
Eagles +3 vs Rams
THE PLAY
Philadelphia +3 · Lincoln Financial Field · Sun 1PM ET · Total 42.5
THE LINE
Opened Rams -1.5 → now -3 (-3.5 at DraftKings) · ML PHI +140 / LAR -165
WHY
The Eagles have won all four meetings with the Rams since the start of the 2023 season, per Fox Sports’ Geoff Hill. Winning in Philadelphia is hard on its own, and the Rams have already logged heavy travel this season. Los Angeles also comes in under real pressure: a loss drops them to 1-3. When the market pushes a road favorite through a field goal against a team that keeps beating it, we’ll take the home dog getting a full three.

🏈 SECOND LOCK · CFB
Alabama -5.5 at Mississippi State
THE PLAY
Alabama -5.5 · Davis Wade Stadium · Sat Noon ET (ABC) · Total 59.5
THE LINE
Alabama -5.5 to -6 · Covers likes it up to -6.5
WHY
Kamario Taylor has turned into a Heisman favorite, but this is his first real test. Mississippi State’s toughest opponent so far was Missouri. On the other side, Keelon Russell has nine total touchdowns in his last two games and ranks 7th nationally in QBR (89.0), ahead of Taylor’s 87.1. Alabama is 4th in points per opportunity (5.36), 19th in EPA per pass and 11th on third and fourth down. Mississippi State’s defense ranks 82nd in EPA per pass and 60th on third and fourth down. Add a Bama pass rush averaging 18.7 pressures a game against a quarterback who lives on making plays, and the Tide win this by a touchdown.
